America the Beautiful – The “American” in “Americana” Art exhibition

June 29, 2018 @ 7:00 pm - June 30, 2018 @ 10:00 pm

We all know what American refers to, or do we? In this age of contradicting ideals and ideas of patriotism, is it possible to agree on what is American about American Art?

Traditionally, we think of flags and Uncle Sam, of hometown parades, and apple pie. Don’t get me wrong, these are undoubtedly still part of the charm and nostalgia of America’s history.  Many of us have read the classics, Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn, listened to Aaron Copeland’s Appalachian Spring, and are duly familiar with Grant Wood’s paintings of rural farm life (as in American Gothic) and Norman Rockwell’s illustrations of everyday workers and families in both small town settings and emerging cities, which they helped build.

It is rather befitting that right here, in a warehouse in suburban America, we offer to you this most unique interpretation of “American Art”. This exhibition, “America the Beautiful”, The “American” in “Americana” Art includes many diverse contemporary works, some which readily fall within a strict definition of Americana, and others which may push the envelope just a bit. But isn’t this really the underlying principle on which this country was founded?

We invite you to join us, June 29th and 30th, for this patriotic display of art. Food and drinks will be offered, including some fun distinct “American” options. We will also have games, visiting artists, and chances for kids to create their own “Americana” art!**
